I have both a general practice and a specialty practice in clinical psychology.

In my general practice I help individuals and couples overcome anxiety, mood disorders, and other problems to live more full and productive lives.

In my specialty practice I help people deal with a wide range of reproductive health concerns from sex, infertility, and pregnancy, to preparing for childbirth or adoption and parenting.

I am taking new patients, and you are welcome to contact me for an appointment. I hope the articles and links on this web site are helpful for you.

Compiled By Dr Sara Rosenquist

Web Resources:
  • Carolina Parent Magazine
Carolina Parent Magazine is a comprehensive resource for parents and those who are expecting that covers the Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill area (known as the triangle) in North Carolina. Carolina Parent offers a plethora of links to online sources as well as helpful information that is kept current and interesting.

  • New Report on Women and Depression: Latest Research Findings and Recommendations
If you think women are generally more likelty to suffer from depression than are men, you are right. For a comprehensive review of research findings about gender differences, biological, psychological, and social factors affecting the prevalence of depression among women:

  • Some parenting sites: Parenting doesn't have to be difficult. There is a middle path that avoids both the harshness of authoritarian parenting practices and the coddling of some of the more gentle approaches first popularized by Dr. Benjamin Spock. Both Love and Logic and 1-2-3 Magic are approaches that been proven effective by years of experience as well as methodical research.

Books:

Parenting

  • Touchpoints: The Essential Reference
    by T. Berry Brazelton, M.D.
This book is, as the title implies, truly a comprehensive reference. Dr. Brazelton is an internationally renowned pediatrician and expert on child development, who also has psychoanalytic training. He is very thorough in his treatment of child development from physical, cognitive, emotional, and behavioral angles, while also offering compassionate insights into parents' emotions at each of these stages. Perhaps because of his training, he tends to emphasize and promote mothers' care, but this is still the best reference going.

  • Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems
    by Richard Ferber, M.D.
Sleep deprivation can expose your last nerve like nothing else in parenting. Few of us are at our best when we are emotionally vulnerable from lack of sleep. This book is written by the leading authority on children's sleep problems, and is a practical guide for all new parents.

Finances (helpful to anyone)

  • Two Incomes and Still Broke: It's Not How Much You Make, but How Much You Keep.
    by Linda Kelly
This book is an excellent basic finance book about the many illusions and deceptions that plague couples deciding how to make do on one instead of two incomes. Obviously, this is not a cure-all for families subsisting on meager resources.
