Good psychotherapy should do so much more than just help you feel better. Good psychotherapy should help you deepen self intimacy–your capacity to know yourself, your strengths and weaknesses, without shame or harsh self criticism. Learning to practice self compassion is the cornerstone of getting to know yourself. It’s also the starting place for learning to make positive changes in your life using positive behavior change strategies. Harsh self punishment is altogether different from accountability. Don’t settle for a life of good behavior–aspire to be the best person you can be, someone who is always growing.
